Welcome to Kamaʻaina Hale, in the heart of Kailua-Kona, just a short walk from the ocean and steps away from restaurants, shops, and beaches.

For nearly 50 years, our 128-unit community has provided safe, affordable homes for local families, helping sustain the rhythms of Hawai'i island life that make Kona special.

At Kamaʻaina Hale, we believe housing is more than a roof overhead. It's a foundation for building ohana, community, connection, and dignity. Our nonprofit works alongside residents to foster pride, support families, and strengthen the bonds that keep our island strong. From movie nights on the lawn to holiday celebrations, after-school tutoring, and our community garden, we honor the value of growing together.

In 2014, through the collective effort of local leaders, organizations, and dedicated residents, Kamaʻaina Hale Apartments (Nonprofit corp.) assumed ownership and full operational responsibility of the project and began a major rehabilitation that brought 70 units back into circulation in the local housing market. This work, led by our nonprofit, and rooted in a spirit of kakou (togetherness), demonstrates our commitment to addressing Hawai'is housing shortage and ensuring local families have homes they can be proud of. Our nonprofit is actively pursuing different avenues to assist in the current housing shortage in the state of Hawai'i. Since 2014 millions of dollars have been reinvested back into the aging project with a much larger rehab being planned to house future generations.

Our promise remains: to build, maintain and steward Kamaʻaina Hale as a place where Hawaiʻi’s people can build a life, raise families, and stay connected to the land and community they love.
